June 24, 2007 STUDIO CITY SUN (LA CA) Liberty Jones, Atlanta, Georgia (Indian Proud) You may not be able to judge a book by the cover, but you often can a band. Southern-based Liberty Jones' intriguing mix of boogie, blues, country and rock takes them down several roads, and their five cover songs really help the group get there. George Harrison, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Steve Earle and Jimi Hendrix are all rockingly represented on Atlanta, Georgia, and it's a testament to the band's prowess that they pull off full-blooded versions of some of these artists' best work. Even better, there are originals here that can stand right next to the classics, especially "Left Behind" and "Gina." Expect this quintet to continue making plenty of noise out of Hot 'Lanta, and keep an eye out for who they decide to cover next. That's half the fun of getting there, and luckily, Liberty Jones sound like they know it. Bill Bentley More News |
