Roger Mathis
Roger Mathis knew at an early age that he wanted to write songs. Nowadays, he wants to be a songwriter.

Roger began taking piano lessons (rather, pounding on all 88 keys) at the age of eight, and remained a steadfast student through high school. Growing up, the Mathis family relocated around the US every couple of years. While the schedule was inconsistent, it did provide Roger the opportunity to learn from an array of “teachers” that ran the gamut. From the musical nun in New York, to the gravelly-voiced lounge entertainer in Texas, each provided Roger with a different view of the big, wide world of music. These juxtaposed positions intersected in Roger’s early ‘20s to form his style…..Kind of a very, very, very small Big Bang Theory.

Out in the real world, Roger settled in Atlanta, and has made his home there for the last 20 years. For a long while, Roger pushed songwriting aside to pursue a performance career playing in bands around the southeast US. Always writing songs in the background, he sought outlets to perform original material. On his first pursuit of songwriting recognition, he was awarded Runner Up in the Georgia Music Association’s Songwriting Competition in 1997.

Shortly thereafter, Roger began a journey with Liberty Jones, a Marietta, GA-based alt.country/rock band. Roger performed, wrote and recorded with Liberty Jones over the last eight years. Nowadays a solo artist, Roger is dedicating his musical pursuit to songwriting.

Influences: The Beatles, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Buck Owens, Steve Earle.
